Compatibility

The first factor that you will need to consider when it comes to finding the best Ethernet cable for gaming is the compatibility of your chosen Ethernet cable.

It’s all well and good opting for the best Ethernet cable that money can buy, but what will you do if your chosen cable isn’t actually compatible with your preferred method of gaming?

Before you even start to look for Ethernet cables online, you will need to know what connectors your gaming console or gaming PC has.

This will give you a much better idea of what connectors to look for in an Ethernet cable and will avoid you having to purchase additional equipment to make the gaming console backwards compatible with the wrong cable.

Once you have determined what type of connectors your will need from your Ethernet cable, you will be in a better position to find the best Ethernet cable for gaming.

Length

Next, you will need to think about how long you need your chosen Ethernet cable to be.

The whole point of an Ethernet cable is to hook up your gaming device to your internet hub. This won’t necessarily be right next to your gaming console or gaming PC, and will often be in another room completely depending on the set up of your home. So you sometimes need to opt for a larger cable that can stretch between rooms if you need it to.

The best course of action will be to use your tape measure to measure the distance between your console and your internet hub. This will then tell you how long a cable needs to opt for. It will also be worth considering whether you need a slightly longer cable that can be secured to the skirting board of your home.

This will keep it out of the way and ensure that you don’t accidentally trip over the Ethernet cable as you walk around your home.

High Speed

Of course, the most crucial element when it comes to choosing the best Ethernet cable is whether it gives you the high speeds that you need for responsive gaming.

If your chosen Ethernet cable doesn’t give you the faster speeds that you need, it will be virtually useless when it comes to playing games online.

Take a look at the maximum speeds that your chosen Ethernet cable is able to support. If you plan on playing triple-A games, you will need the fastest speeds that your Ethernet cable can give you.

Heavy Duty

To ensure that your Ethernet cable is able to last you for many years to come, you will need to ensure that you opt for a heavy-duty model. If you do a lot of gaming, then you will be constantly putting your Ethernet cable through its paces.

So you will want to ensure that you opt for a model that is more than up to the job!

Take a look at the components of your chosen Ethernet cable. Does this feature high-quality components which will be able to do a sterling job and last you even longer?

Does it feature a protective casing so as to prevent the cable from breaking over time? The better quality the components, the longer your chosen Ethernet cable will last you.

It will be best to opt for a heavy-duty Ethernet cable if you can so that you can rest assured that it won’t break easily.

Anti-Tangle

There’s nothing more annoying than your Ethernet cable getting tangled up in knots or tangled up with all of the other cables you’ve got installed around your gaming console or gaming PC! So if you opt for an Ethernet cable that has been designed to be anti-tangle, you won’t have to worry about constantly having to unravel your wires all the time.

By opting for an anti-tangle Ethernet cable, you can also rest assured that your cable won’t become damaged from constant kinks or tangling. This will then give you better peace of mind that your chosen Ethernet cable will last you for many years to come!

Anti-Interference

Your Ethernet cable can be affected by so many external factors, particularly if you opt for a cheaper model. So it will be important to opt for an Ethernet cable that offers you anti-interference technology.

This will ensure that you get the superior connection that you’re after so that you don’t have to worry about your Ethernet cable letting you down at any point during your gaming experience.

This should then protect your Ethernet cable from interference that can occur from signals getting crossed, noise, or anything else that can degrade your connection quality.

    Hello.
It all depends on the NIC on the device the router/switch and the cables in your walls. Not to mention the ISP.
Take note that 99.9% of the PC’s come with 1 Gbps NIC card. CAT 5 patchcord can handle that speed with no problem.
